The Vee to Mount Melleray. Leader, Ollie Power.
Five of us met at Mount Melleray, Humphrey, Helena, John Roche, John Kennedy, and Ollie. It was dry, but the hills were covered in cloud, and there was a little chill in the air. We decided to start the walk from Baylough car park rather than the Vee, so we left Mount Melleray at 10 sharp in two cars, leaving our change of clothes in the other two cars. Having checked the Vee just in case anyone was there, we parked in Baylough, in a heavy drizzle, and started up to Sugarloaf. We caught our breath at the top, where it was foggy, raining and windy, and so it stayed for most of the walk. The rocks and ground were very slippy so we had to watch our steps, nevertheless we enjoyed a good steady pace up to and past Knockmealdown, where we found a sheltered spot for lunch. Shortly afterwards the cloud did break up, and we enjoyed views of and from Knocknagnauv and Knocknafallia. The cloud descended again however, so it was compass all the way to the woods, and a nice stroll from there to a welcome cuppa and apple tart at Mount Melleray.
